オカメザサに覆われた小廬山ののびやかな山容を維持するために、毎年ササの高さを揃える刈込み作業を行っておりますが、同じ場所で刈り続けると古い茎が残って密生し、ササの健全な生育に支障をきたします。そのため数年に1度、新しく伸びてくる茎葉を更新させるため、地際まで深く刈込む作業を実施しています。本作業は、2022年の実施から3年ぶりの刈込み作業となります。

刈込み作業によって、地上部の葉などがなくなるため、全山が写真のように茶色くなりますが、6月中旬頃から筍が伸び始め、2ヶ月半～3ヶ月後にはまた緑の山に戻ります。

In order to maintain the graceful appearance of the Sho-Rozan Hill covered with ruscus-leaf bamboo (Shibataea kumasaca), we trim the height of the bamboo every year. However, if we continue to trim it to the same height, old stems will remain and grow densely, which will hinder its healthy growth. Therefore, every few years, we trim deeper to the edge of the ground in order to renew growing stems and leaves. This is the first time in three years since we last trimmed in 2022.

The trimming operation will remove all leaves from the ground, so the entire hill will be brown as shown in the pictures.

However, bamboo shoots will start to grow from mid-June, and the hill will return to green again in about 2.5 to 3 months.
