Magic Hour A Time When Lives Are Connected
Kasai Rinkai Park, located just a short distance from the city center, offers sweeping views of the sky and the sea.
The area home to Kasai Rinkai Park and the Kasai Rinkai Aquarium has long maintained a deep connection with the ocean.
Not only can visitors enjoy the vast expanse of the sea and encounter local aquatic life,
but the park’s expansive grounds also feature approximately 25,000 sunflowers in full bloom and are home to
a diverse array of plants, wild birds, and other wildlife. Just as the color of the sky changes,
so too does “life”—ever-changing and interconnected. Through a light display reminiscent of the ever-shifting skies during
the “magic hour” as the sun moves across the sky, we invite you to experience firsthand
the interconnected “life” of the plants and animals that thrive in the park.

- Central Garden Path Before the Fountain
When the lights come on, the trees lining the central path—which serves as the park’s entrance—welcome visitors with soft, orange lighting reminiscent of the twilight sky. Furthermore, the lights suspended from the trees sparkle like droplets falling from the branches, evoking the “source of life” from which all living things originate.

Artificial sunflowers have been placed along the garden paths, inviting visitors to the sunflower flowerbeds. As dusk falls, the trees lining the garden paths are illuminated with a light reminiscent of the orange-tinged sky. Additionally, spherical lights—inspired by “grains of life” that grow on tree branches, nourished by the bounty of nature—gently illuminate visitors as they make their way toward the sunflower field.

Next to the Ferris wheel, a sunflower field covering approximately 3,800 square meters (about 25,000 plants) will be on display again this year. The field features two varieties of sunflowers: “Valentine” and “Haruka’s Sunflower” (also known as the “Recovery Sunflower”). During the day, you can enjoy the view of the sunflower field stretching out beneath the blue sky and immerse yourself in a world surrounded by vibrant yellow sunflowers. As dusk falls, the sunflowers take on a different charm to welcome you. Bathed in the warm hues of the sunset, the sunflower field is enveloped in a gentle, warm light that evokes the warmth of life, transforming into a mature “Garden of Life.” This summer, be sure to visit the illuminated sunflower field.

During the event, a photo spot decorated with fresh flowers will be set up, allowing visitors to take photos with the “KASAI” sign against the backdrop of the sunflower field. With a sea of sunflowers in full bloom and seasonal flowers filling the air with the scent of summer, why not capture a special photo that’s unique to this time of year?

The lights lined along the path evoke the image of the “Lights of Life” returning to the sea—the birthplace of life. The deep, tranquil sea, the ultimate destination of life, is represented by the trees lining the garden path. As the sun sets and the sky signals the arrival of night, the trees are illuminated in shades ranging from orange to pale pink and purple, glowing as if to gently envelop the life returning to the sea.

As dusk falls, lights inspired by the water’s surface and fish appear along the path leading to the aquarium entrance. “Life of the Sea,” depicting creatures swimming gracefully across the vast ocean, invites visitors into the marine world. Additionally, lanterns modeled after fish—such as bluefin tuna—that you can see inside the Kasai Rinkai Aquarium have been set up along the path as photo spots. Please enjoy this unique Kasai-style display.

Along the central garden path, a polyhedral sculpture has been installed that shimmers differently depending on the viewing angle. It represents the crystallization of “new life” born from the sea. On the path leading to the shore, an illuminated display has been installed that evokes the image of shallow waters, where new life rises toward the light at dawn. The soft, dawn-like hues of the light create a pale, ethereal atmosphere that conveys the sense of new life being born.

It features a refreshing cream-yellow single bloom,making it the perfect shade for cut flowers.
Sunflowers of Reconstruction
The “Haruka’sSunflower” seeds we are planting as “Recovery Sunflowers” are sunflowers that bloomed on the site of the former home of Haruka Kato,a sixth-grader who passed away in the Great Hanshin-Awaji Earthquake.
Workshop
Making an Aquarium Lantern
On weekends during the event, we’ll be holding a workshop where you can make small, sparkling lanterns that look like miniature aquariums. They’re very easy to make: simply fill a bottle-shaped lantern with beads in your favorite colors and water, then stick fish- and sunflower-shaped colored stickers onto the lantern. The ripples in the water will reflect off your hands and body, giving you the sensation of walking underwater. On weekends, please enjoy a nighttime stroll through the park with your handmade lantern in hand.*Workshops require advance reservations, so please sign up via the link below. Seasonal Menu

The park shops will sell the limited-time Sunflower Soft Serve, as well as the Magic Hour Soda,
a special drink inspired by the event theme, featuring a beautiful magic-hour gradation.
Enjoy drinks and food in the park while taking in the sunflowers and light displays.
Food trucks will also be available at various locations throughout the park during the event period.

Business hours may change or food trucks may be closed in the event of severe weather.

What is the Flower and Light Movement?
This initiative by the Tokyo Metropolitan Government aims to create new, large-scale and attractive flower displays in metropolitan parks,
offering new ways to enjoy parks through seasonal presentations of flowers and light throughout the year.

Flowers and Light Movement 5th Anniversary Stamp Rally
To commemorate the 5th anniversary of the “Flowers and Lights Movement,”
we are holding the “Flowers and Lights Movement 5th Anniversary Stamp Rally” at the six participating parks this year.
During the event period at each park, participants who collect stamps at three of the six participating parks will receive a free gift (an original tenugui hand towel).
*Stamps can only be collected during the “Flowers and Lights Movement” event periods at each participating park.
*The novelty item will be distributed at each venue during the event periods at Koganei Park, Hibiya Park, Sayama Park, and Kiba Park.
*Please note that the novelty item will not be distributed at Kasai Rinkai Park.
