mapThis park is a flower garden established during the Bunka,Bunsei periods in the early 19th century. It was constructed by a famous antiquary in the Edo period and has a beauty which is different from the Daimyo gardens like Koishikawa Korakuen and Rikugien. Originally this garden featured a lot of Ume plum trees, but later it was made to bloom all the year round collecting famous plants from various parts in Japan. The name "Hyakka-en" means "a garden full of various flowers all the year round" and it was opened to the public in 1939. The Garden was appointed as a beauty spot and landmark of Japan in 1978, based on the Cultural Properties Protection law.

mapThis park is one of "Rinsen-kaiyuu" style gardens with natural ponds, waterfalls and forest. It is built on the edge of the terrace of Musashino cliffs edges. The garden was originally built as the second home of Mr. Sadamine Eguchi, vice president of Manchuria Railroad, in 1915 and later became the villa of Iwasaki family of Mitsubishi Zaibatsu group in 1929. Tokyo Prefecture bought it from Iwasaki family in 1974 and opened to the public. The name of the park comes from the region’s old name, Tonogayato, Kokubunnji-village.
