What is “Tanabata”?
Tanabata, also known as the Star Festival, is a festival celebrating an ancient legend and is held on July 7, when slips of colored paper with prayers or wishes written thereon are attached to the twigs of sasa (broad-leaf bamboo).
What is “Remote Tanabata”?
Owing to COVID-19, we are holding “Remote Tanabata” this year. To participate, you will need to follow us on our twitter account (@HamarikyuGarden) and tweet your wish or prayer with the hashtag “HamarikyuTanabata2020”.
We will pick only ONE wish or prayer from the wishes or prayers tweeted by our followers per day over the period from Jun. 29 through Jul. 6 and write it on a slip of colored paper and hang it on the twig of the sasa (broad-leaf bamboo) set up at Otemon Gate on behalf of him/her. We will post tweets with pictures of the written wishes or prayers. Please do check them out.
